Can dogs eat Amazake (non-alcoholic)?

Amazake (non-alcoholic)(甘酒(ノンアルコール))

With care

A drink whose sweetness comes from fermentation, with rice koji breaking starch down into sugars.

76 kcal per 100 g

What kind of food is this?

A drink made from rice and koji. Per 100g it has 76kcal and 18.3g of carbohydrates. Sugars created as koji enzymes break down the rice starch are what make it taste sweet without added sugar.

It is also known as a source of koji-derived oligosaccharides. Some oligosaccharides resist digestion in the small intestine and can be used by gut bacteria.

Rather than adding concentrated nutrition, it is a food for adding a little fermented flavor, sweetness, and energy to a meal.

How to serve

Choose one made from rice koji, with 0% alcohol and no added sugar. Amazake made from sake lees can contain alcohol, so treat it as a different food.

When you have these care goals

Gut and stool care — Known as an ingredient containing oligosaccharides derived from koji.

In food-energetics terms

In traditional food therapy, this is classified as 'warming'—said to gently warm the body, and often chosen in seasons when chill is a concern.

(Food energetics is a long-standing idea of supporting the body through everyday meals. Treat it as one extra hint alongside the nutrition numbers.)
