What kind of food is this?
A fruit we place on the do-not-feed side. Avocado contains a substance called persin, which is known to be strongly toxic to birds, horses, and some other animals. Because much is still unclear about its effects in dogs, BT-Throb takes the safe side and says "do not feed."
On top of that, the pit is large and hard, and can block the digestive tract if swallowed. Flesh, skin, and pit — none of it is used as a dog food ingredient.
The pit's size is a separate concern
Apart from what avocado contains, the size of the pit itself needs attention. Dogs sometimes swallow hard things without chewing, and a large round pit may not be able to pass through the digestive tract.
If your dog may have swallowed the skin or pit, tell the veterinary clinic about that as well.
