Can dogs eat Peach?

Peach(桃)

With care

A soft, juicy fruit. Skip the pit and use only the flesh.

38 kcal per 100 g

What kind of food is this?

At 38kcal per 100g, it is on the light side for a fruit. It is high in water with soft flesh.

Rather than adding any one nutrient in quantity, peach is an easy way to add moisture and sweetness.

The pit, however, contains cyanogenic glycosides that can turn into harmful compounds in the body if chewed. The large pit itself can also cause blockages.

How to serve

Remove the pit and skin, and use the flesh.

What stone fruits have in common

Fruits with a hard pit at the center — peaches, cherries, ume (Japanese plums), and apricots — are known to contain compounds of the same family inside the pit. What they share is this: the flesh can be eaten, but the pit must be removed.

If your dog may have swallowed a pit, contact your veterinary clinic.
