What kind of food is this?
A broth made by simmering bones for many hours. It contains gelatin—collagen from bones and cartilage transformed by heat—and may set when chilled.
Gelatin is a collagen-derived protein, notably rich in amino acids such as glycine and proline. That said, the contents vary widely with the type of bones and the simmering time, so bone broth cannot be pinned down to a single set of nutrition numbers.
Its role is to add moisture and aroma to meals, bringing in a gelatin quality that meat or vegetable soups do not have.
How to serve
Use broth made for dogs, or one with no added salt, onion, garlic, or the like. For store-bought products, check the ingredient list.
